Make Food Not Waste
Did you know that reducing food waste is by far one of the most effective ways individuals can reduce the amount of heat trapping gases they create.* Great news, each of us can be a part of a major event that reduces food waste and helps feed people right here in Southfield. On April 13, Make Food Not Waste will be holding a community feast at the Southfield Pavilion. The City of Southfield is working to become the first city in the state to eliminate food waste. At past MFNW community feasts, thousands of people sampled dishes made by local chefs from food that would otherwise have gone to waste. An additional 1,000 meals were donated to local shelters at the end of the day. Here is a link to sign-up to help on April 13 Sign Up to Participate. Make Food Not Waste regularly operates an upcycling kitchen in Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church in Detroit where they distribute free meals to the community every single week, using ingredients that would otherwise have gone to waste. Questions? Contact Lynn Fanelli or any member of the Climate Action Now Team.
