Adult Ministries

We believe that Christian Education is a lifelong venture that includes examining scripture and the stories of our faith that challenge us to be in the right relationship with God and our community. We seek to offer meaningful Christian Education programs for every stage of life.

Bible Study

Wednesday at 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM

Greenfielders meet for engaging studies that will help you grow in your relationship

with God while discovering how the stories in scripture are the stories of today.

JOY Group

J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth)  is an informal group of adults of all ages who enjoy spending time together in joyful fellowship.  Our goal is to  make connections with our church family and spend quality time getting to know each other better.  J.O.Y. events generally occur once a month and include gathering at church for speakers, game days, potlucks, and celebrations.   Special outings have included trips to museums, a nature center, and even a performance at the Detroit Opera House.  Often a stop for refreshments is included!  If you are interested in the J.O.Y. group please contact Mary Tackett at mtackett54@gmail.com or Nancy Youngerman at nclaus4708@gmail.com

Prayer Shawl Group

Gathering as a group of men and women who enjoy knitting, crocheting and fellowship, members of the Prayer Shawl Group find great fulfillment in spreading the love of God by creating items of comfort to be given to people in need of solace.

The group has partnered with area hospitals, hospices, and shelters to donate many shawls, scarves, baby blankets, hats, and booties, to people who need some warmth in their lives. Even people from our own congregation have received donations.  As one recipient of a prayer shawl explained when she wrapped the shawl around her shoulders, she felt the loving arms of the church and felt God’s comfort. Prayer shawl meetings are filled with laughter and developing a true kinship between the group members. Most of all, they share their desire to help anyone in need. Hugs can make a difference in someone’s life and when we can’t be there to give a hug, the prayer shawl can do the hugging for us.

Reel-To-Reel

After viewing a selected film at home, Reel-to-Reel meets the first Monday of each month for lively and thought-provoking discussions centered around a faith theme and how a secular movie relates to our spiritual life.  Anyone who enjoys movies is welcome to participate.  For more information, please contact Deb Basierbe at dm.basierbe@att.net.

Bowling League

The GPC bowling league is for individuals, first timers, beginners, those that have played and those that just want to have some fun and enjoy the fellowship.  Join as a team of 4 or we can match you up with others to make a team. The bowling league is approximately 15 weeks, every other Sunday starting in September and finishing in April.  It's $13/pp per Sunday.  All are welcome.  If interested please contact Kathleen Scherer (248-546-0496 email buytwo@comcast.net) or Bonnie Swetman (248-632-1303 email bswetman@wowway.com)

For Men

Men’s Breakfast

The men of GPC meet for a monthly Men’s Breakfast at 7:00 am on the first Saturday of each month at the Avenue restaurant in Royal Oak. In addition to food and fellowship, this is a great opportunity for the men of Greenfield to get to know one another better and to build friendships.

Men’s Retreat

GPC men have an annual Men’s Retreat which starts on a Friday night for fellowship going into an overnight stay followed by a Saturday of bible study and reflection. The retreat has two primary goals: 1) To provide a space that sparks relationships between the men of our church and 2) provide an opportunity to commune with God and have God’s presence restored in our lives. Join them both days or just on Saturday.

Men’s Bible Study

The men's Bible study provides a space for men to deepen their relationship with God and build godly relationships with other men. As a result, you will also deepen your relationships with those closest to you. The Men’s Bible Study meets on Saturday mornings, typically running for 5 weeks and held twice a year. On hold for now. Check back for updates

Greenfield Book Discussion

Once a month, from September to June, all in the church are invited to meet for a book discussion.  Books for the entire year are chosen at the September meeting and usually include one classic, one religious topic, nonfiction titles of current interest and literary fiction. Our discussions are wide ranging and provide an excellent opportunity to get to know other Greenfielders as we share and reflect on the books we read.  There are no attendance requirements— just come when you can. Open this link to see a list of the books we have read since the Book Group was started.

Women’s Retreat

The Women's Retreat is a balance of large group interaction, mini presentations, small group conversations, a craft and meals depending on location.  The Women's Retreat varies from year to year.  We may meet at the Howell Nature Center, in Howell, where we stay overnight on Friday through Saturday afternoon, at Knoll Lodge, in a beautiful wooded area on the lake.  Or we meet for a one day retreat at the Kilgour Scottish Centre of the St. Andrew's Society in Troy.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to relax, connect with friends, and make new friends.   Members, friends, and visitors are all welcome.  Please consider joining us.

 Racial Justice & Reconciliation

Called by Christ to spiritual reconciliation, rather than simply a political or societal one, we recognize racism as a spiritual and moral issue, and acknowledge that, as a predominately white congregation, we have a Christian obligation to bear the burden of mending racial divisions.

The Mission Committee moved that the GPC Session approve the creation of a Racial Reconciliation Group to engage in the study of how Greenfield can address ways to connect justice, mercy and compassion in our personal lives and strive to heal and transform brokenness in ourselves, our culture, and our institutions.

The group will continue to develop programming for our congregation that will support these efforts.

We are a diverse church,

inclusive of all.
