Our Hands-On-Mission

Crossroads Soup Kitchen

Please join us at Crossroads Soup Kitchen on Sunday, January 28 from 8:30am - 3:30 pm. We need any and all adults to help prepare, serve and clean up. Youngsters are welcome in the morning (recommend 10 years or older). Our challenge in the morning is to heat up about 130 pounds of meatballs, 180 pounds of mashed potatoes, 180 pounds of corn, 30 dozen rolls, and miscellaneous other components of the lunch. In the afternoon, we serve 350-400 meals and then clean up. Our specific needs include:

   - Volunteers (for the whole day or any part of the day)

   - Money (this day costs about $3 per meal)

   - Cookies (about 115 dozen are served)

Either meet us there (2424 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit) or meet at Greenfield Church at 8am to caravan.

Call Susan Howell 248 808-7279 or Doug Hart 586-291-5940 for details.   Please Sign up online.

SOCH Welcome Inn

February 23-March 1st

During this week we will be partnering with Northbrook Presbyterian to host a week of overnights at the SOCH Welcome Inn. This will be similar to the SOS overnights we’ve done in the past, but we will be hosting at the Starr Presbyterian Building.

As it was with SOS there will be a lot of opportunities to volunteer for this mission project.

More information will be coming about those opportunities after the Holiday Season.

Greenfield Supports…….

We believe that God loves everyone. Our faith is centered in Christ. His example of loving service compels us to live our faith. We do this by creating a caring community where all are welcomed and encouraged to join in worship, outreach, and mission work both near and far. We invite you to learn more about our mission activities and join in our service to others.

Members and Friends of Greenfield Presbyterian work together to make a difference in so many ways and they have lots of fun doing it! Some of the missions we are supporting or have supported:

Winter/Spring Missions

  • Preparing and serving up to 400 people in a Detroit Soup Kitchen

  • Bowls of Hope- a soup luncheon at GPC. Funds help empower low income and homeless Detroiters and serves as the first step on the journey to self-sufficiency.

  • Participate in the renovation and repair of local homes for those that are in need of help with home projects.

  • South Oakland Shelter-Supporting in multiple ways to help homeless people and families get settled into new housing.

Fall/Winter Missions

  • Helping to package and harvest food at various times of the year.

  • Help with various drives to collect food, diapers and other items.

  • We host a yearly event to package 10,000-15,000 meals that are sent to school children in malnourished communities around the world.

  • Supporting and volunteering at the only daytime winter warming center in South Oakland County.

GPC Mission Work

  • Hosting speakers from Black Mama’s Bail Out, Detroit Black Farmers Fund and more.

  • Facilitating the “Clean Sweep” program which helps elderly and disabled members with home care services.

  • Coordinating the Food Pounding and Giving Tree programs to provide food, clothing and gifts to needy families at the holidays.

  • Hosting the Christmas Mission Fair to support various groups and charities .

  • Christmas Eve tradition of giving the offering collected that day to a special charity each year.

We are a diverse church,

inclusive of all.
